I have enjoyed taking
photos around the neighborhood and in the backyard at our house in Mountain View
(between San Francisco and San Jose California). You might be surprised at
what you can find in your own yard. Here are some photos of the wildlife
in our neighborhood.
The Burrowing Owl can be seen in wetlands near our home (Shoreline Park).
The population has declined and is listed as endangered in some states.
One day, I spotted this owl just down the street! A very rare sighting in
our neighborhood. Most likely the nesting area of this owl had been disturbed by
construction and the owl was searching for a new area. I have never seen
another Burrowing owl near our home since then. A reminder of how this owl is
endangered.

We enjoy watching these toads around our
house. We watch
them grow from
little ones
to adults like this one.
This Swallowtail enjoyed the Butterfly bush
in our front yard!

I am not sure of the name of this garden spider?
Does anyone know?
Perhaps a
Wood spider?

This Nuthatch found a nice hole in a dead
Apple tree in the yard near our cabin. She seemed to be happy to
let me take a photo of her in the nest.
