shows towns, territories and many of the forts from 1867 including
Dodge, Davis, Union, Cottonwood, Belknap, Gibson, Mandan, Kearney,
Bents Chadbournes, Pierre, Randall, Quitman, Defiance and many
others.
The author states this map
shows the "National Pacific Railroad, indicating precisely how far
the main stem, at both ends, and the various branches are
completed." In 1869 the completed railroad gave travelers to California the
ability to travel all the way by train.
